Mourning Cloak Butterfly
Professor Bob Lane has a special fondness for the mourning cloak butterfly, Nymphalis antiopa, (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae). He credits his early interest in entomology to seeing these butterflies in the wild as a boy in Southern California, eventually leading him into a long and successful career in entomology at UC Berkeley. As he says, it is the “joy of discovery” that has driven his personal and professional accomplishments. Learn more about the Bob Lane tabanid and tick collection.
