Even before the advent of the California Insect Survey project in 1939, the UC Berkeley entomology department engaged in field expeditions (like the Fort Seward trip in 1936, above). The Essig Museum has revived this tradition in recent years, to include faculty, staff, students, volunteers, and other arthropod enthusiasts.
