H. Edwin Cott Thysanoptera Collection

H. Edwin Cott received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis in 1952. He subsequently took jobs in Utah and then Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1955.

The Collection

This collection was saved from the junk pile at the last minute by Dr. Chemsak when it was found by a non-entomologist following Cott’s death. The collection comprises approximately 2500 slide-mounted specimens, primarily from the western United States. Some specimens of S.F. Bailey’s Thysanoptera collection are included, though it is not certain what proportion of that collection these represent. Additionally numerous paratypes are contained in the collection, of Dr. Cott’s species and others.

Non-specimen materials include Dr. Cott’s translations of several papers on Thysanoptera and a bibliography of literature on the group thought to be complete through about 1950.
