Formicencyrtus

Return to Introduction

1 Fully winged …………..…………………… neomexicanus
1′ Brachypterus ……….…………….……. thoreauini

Described Nearctic species and distribution
neomexicanus (Ashmead 1900): USA (CA, NM)
thoreauini Girault 1916: US (AZ, CA, NM)

Remarks
I have not seen confirmed specimens of F. thoreauini, and it is possible it is simply a form of F. neomexicanus. In my checklist of the California Encyrtidae (Zuparko, 2015), I mistakenly reported that both described species had been based on brachypterous specimens, and thus the fully winged specimens in the UCDC and UCRC collections might represent a new species. In fact these specimens appear to be conspecific with F. neomexicanus.
