Research Interests

I received my B.S. at U.C. Berkeley in 1975 in the Conservation of Natural Resources major, specializing in integrated pest management. This led to a four-year stint in an urban IPM program led by Dr. William Olkowski, where I worked on pests of shade trees. In 1985-86, I worked under Dr. Roger Akre at Washington State University. In 1987 I began my graduate studies at Berkeley under Dr. Donald Dahlsten. Initially I studied the tuliptree aphid, but ultimately completed my dissertation investigating the biological control of the linden aphid.

As an associate curator of the Essig Museum, my primary duties are curating the Hymenoptera. I am also employed at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, working under Dr. Wojciech Pulawski and Dr. Norman Penny, as a curatorial assistant.

My research interests are the taxonomy of the Chalcidoidea and other parasitoid groups in the Hymenoptera, with special interest in their use in biological control programs.
