Cal Day: Bug Day
Cal Day, a campus-wide open house at UC Berkeley, was held on Saturday, April 20th this year. Many departments, museums, academic and social organizations hosted displays, talks, and events. Cal Day is the best time for the general public to visit the Essig Museum, as we have displays, presentations, bug hunts, live arthropods, insect art, and other fun and educational offerings. The Valley Life Sciences Building (VLSB), home to the Essig Museum and other Berkeley Natural History Museums, is the perfect destination for Cal Day. The UC Musuem of Paleontology, the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology and the University and Jepson Herbaria also have tours, displays and activities for all ages. Join us for an exciting and interesting look behind the scenes at the Berkeley Natural History Museums on Cal Day!
Darwin/Evolution Day at the Essig Museum!
Each year, the Essig Museum celebrates Darwin's birthday and Evolution on February 12th. Entomology graduate students conduct special behind-the-scenes tours of our museum in the Valley Life Sciences Building while also showing how Darwin and other naturalists improved our understanding of how evolution works in the natural world. If you would like to join us on one of our tours (noon, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 or 4:00) please contact Deanna Jackson.
