Cal Day: Bug Day

Cal Day, a campus-wide open house at UC Berkeley, will be held on Saturday, April 21st this year. Many departments, museums, academic and social organizations will host displays, talks, and events. Cal Day is the best time for the general public to visit the Essig Museum, as we will have displays, presentations, bug hunts, live arthropods, insect art, and other fun and educational offerings. The Valley Life Sciences Building (VLSB), our new home, and home to the other Berkeley Natural History Museums, is the perfect destination for Cal Day. The UC Musuem of Paleontology, the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology and the University and Jepson Herbaria will also have tours, displays and activities for all ages. Join us for an exciting and interesting look behind the scenes at the Berkeley Natural History Museums on Cal Day!

Darwin/Evolution Day at the Essig Museum!

The Essig Museum will celebrate Darwin's birthday and Evolution this year on Friday, February 10th. Entomology graduate students will conduct special behind-the-scenes tours of our museum in the Valley Life Sciences Building while also showing how Darwin and other naturalists improved our understanding of how evolution works in the natural world. Tours will take place at 12, 1, 2, 3 and 4 p.m. If you are interested in attending, please contact Deanna Jackson for more information.
